I would like to recommend a game on Steam called Survive The Nights which is currently in early access development
Its a pretty good game known as whats called indie, not really a highly polished title still lots of fun to play with friends. The game has plenty of work to do yet and like all early access titles it could flop, so far its shaping up to be one of the more promising titles on steam.
The premise of the game: its based on a small island somewhere off Canada, the mainland has been overrun by the zombie invasion you start the game as a sole survivor as there's currently no npc's in game yet - someday maybe.
The goal of the game is to survive as many nights as possible, you need to find food and water weapons ammo and various other crafting resources tools. A constant need to scavenge for fresh supplies is always evident. As of the typing of this post the dev's are gearing up for release of local host server and dedicated role out so that servers no longer need to be rented through their authorized provider.
Base building isn't in the game instead with STN you have to find a preexisting building and fortify it. Horde mode was something added a while back which is where a large hoard of zombies charges at your base with a timer, you have a limited window of time to figure out what to do being that you can either up and leave or stay and fight. There's many other interesting things you can do but i'll leave it there.
There's a good selection of weapons in game, quite a few nice guns which are being added to over time. Melee does exist, you can also craft stronger melee weapons for instance spiked baseball bats aka The Walking Dead.
Longer term the developers hope to add boats and even a river barge that can double as a mobile water base. There's an off game map oil rig, not sure if its in game currently but non accessible. Some updates ago the prison was made accessible, ive not been there myself from what ive seen its quite nice well detailed.
Its quite a long video, it does show alot of the game.
No planes are planned for the game.
Its a game that's been quietly growing on steam and the companies official website https://www.survivethenights.net/
The devs are all good people very responsive & friendly. They have a discord server which can be access here https://discord.com/invite/survivethenights
I believe in time many 7days to die players will switch over to STN seeing as its in some ways like an improved version.
Recommended game, worth a look at if you enjoy multiplayer games. There is an official AU server with likely many more public servers to be added following the downloadable server files.
