I've made a few of my own Windows XP themes (I can't stand the default XP blue theme, I've always found it too bright, so I like to make my own)

My latest theme is simply called "XP Black", which is a nice elegant black version of the default XP theme, with green close buttons. It is designed to fit with the Ynui site...
You can't download the theme anywhere... as of yet (I might release it some time later), but you can view some screenshots I have uploaded on Deviant Art. -

Yea it looks pretty nice .. Although i am a sucker for "dark" themes .. Btw for this theme do you require StyleXP or some other third part app to install it or does WinXP reconise it?

It's a standard XP recognisable theme, just need to replace the uxtheme.dll file, so it can use non Microsoft digitally signed themes, but that's upto the user if they want to do that, it's not illegal or anything.

In my opinion, I think it was a pretty silly thing for Microsoft to do in Windows XP, only allow themes to be applied that are digitally signed by Microsoft. I don't really see the purpose of having theme support, if only themes signed by Microsoft install.
But just get the new DLL file, and you can install any theme. Like I said, not illegal, it's just upto the user if they want to do this or not. -

Really so if i google uxtheme.dll and download it and replace it with the standard uxtheme.dll that means i dont need StyleXp anymore?

Unfortunately the DLL has to be replaced when Windows is not currently using it (which it always is normally). If you try to replace the DLL as is, Windows file protection (which protects the user from accidental files getting overwritten or deleted by malicious software and the like), will replace it again with the old copy.

Back in the day, you had to drop into "Safe Mode Command Prompt" to replace this file, you also had to get the correct version for which XP Service Pack you had installed. Thankfully the guys at Neowin have made a multi-patcher to make the process easier, just Google "uxtheme multi patcher" and you'll find it. There's two links, only the second mirror is active. The instructions need to be followed carefully, or Windows file protection will replace the file with an old copy and it won't work. -
